Reward for a life of service
by KinCare — 21 June 2021
KinCare Customer David was recently acknowledged for his tireless community work when Kingborough Council in Tasmania awarded him Citizen of the Year.
Born in the UK, David emigrated to Australia in 1979 and settled in Tasmania with his wife Jennifer and their two children. The Kingborough Council team said of their decision:
“From his arrival on our shores David has tried to make a positive difference to his community, whether it be through creating meaningful social connections, fighting for improved student conditions or advocating for disability access and inclusion.”
David’s many achievements include starting a local amateur dramatics group and helping hundreds of students learn to swim at a pool he procured from a local school. He also spearheaded a successful local protest campaign when education cuts were proposed for the region.
But it is perhaps in the area of disability rights where David has had the biggest impact. Living with muscular dystrophy and depending on a wheelchair to get around these days, he has actively campaigned to improve access and inclusion in his local area.
All of us at KinCare would like to congratulate David on this well-deserved award and thank him for everything he has done to make his community – and the world – a better place.
