Respite Care

“Mum can’t care for her home the way she used to…I really wish I could do more to help…I don’t want her to have to go to a nursing home…”

“The support I’m providing Dad makes such a difference to his quality of life – but I really need a break…”

Respite Care: You Don’t Need To Care Alone. KinCare Can Help.

Respite care is important because the care you provide for the people you love makes a profound difference to their quality of life. But sometimes you don’t have time or have other responsibilities you can’t neglect. You want to help, but can start to feel overwhelmed…

Respite care checklist:

  • Does someone you love really need support in their home?
  • Is it difficult for you to find time to provide the support they need?
  • Is caring for your loved one beginning to feel like a burden?
  • Are you neglecting other responsibilities and relationships to provide care?
  • Are you feeling stressed by the needs of the people you love?

If you answered yes to any two of these questions, its time to seek advice about respite care.

Respite Care Services enable carers to take a meaningful break.

Many respite care services can provide monitoring and social support as well as a variety of other service types normally provided by the carer during the period they are having a break. With our private respite care services you can choose exactly what other services you want during the respite service. Some Government subsidised services are assessed and the respite care services are delivered based on the guidelines of the specific program.

What’s involved in Respite Care Services?

Respite care

Respite services provide support to the person you love while you take a break. Just let us know what kind of support you would like us to provide for your loved one and we will plan it with you. If the needs of the person you care for are complex, we carefully document your normal routines and what you and your loved one would like to occur while our assistants provide support.

Support services can include social interaction, monitoring of medications, helping with the housework, personal care or any of our other services. Respite care can be provided from short regular intervals to live-in care over many weeks or months.

Companionship

We can spend time talking to your loved one, having a cup of tea or reading letters and books. We can also take your loved one out shopping, to community events or to meet with friends.

Housekeeping

It’s comforting to know your loved one does not need to worry about the housekeeping. Sometimes the best break you can have is to come home and find the house is clean, the clothes are washed and the bed is made, so you can spend quality time with the person you love.

Meal preparation

There’s nothing like a home cooked meal. Whether you want to ensure your loved one has tasty meals, or you want the meal prepared so you can come home and spend quality time with your loved one, we can help.

Personal care

Helping your loved one in or out of bed, getting dressed or undressed or using the bathroom to help them feel refreshed and confident.

Nursing Care

Many of the nursing needs of your loved one can be met at home. Talk to us about your needs and how we may be able to help. We work with your loved one’s doctors and specialists to create a nursing plan that is safe and reduces the trips you need to make to doctors and hospitals.

Transport

We can help your loved one get out and about and provide them support while they are out. We can remove the burden of getting your loved on to the shops, appointments, community events and social gatherings. Contact us for more information about respite care.
